Ginger arrived in the front yard completely feral. He would slink away if you approached within 30 feet. After about a year he allowed me to get closer, and in this photo he would rub against me. But if I touched him he would scratch or bite! He tamed enough to bring inside after 6 more months. Now, 5 years later, he is about the most affectionate cat we've ever had. And he loves foster kittens, often grooming them and sleeping with them. However, he is still very shy with people he doesn't know.
