Tell us your Rescue Story
My wife and I are Kitten Rescue foster parents and this is our “foster fail” cat, Leon. My wife received an email plea about a big tabby cat who was scheduled to be euthanized at the Carson Shelter and could only be adopted by a rescue group, because his former caregiver said that he had bitten her. My wife loves big boy cats and was a volunteer for Kitten Rescue at the time. She looked into his eyes and could tell that he was a good boy and deserved a chance. She pulled him from the shelter with the intention of finding him a home. Leon tested positive for FIV when he went to the vet for his first check up. Cats with FIV can lead long, healthy lives, but the stigma can make it very hard for FIV cats to get adopted. PetSmart and Petco both have policies that discriminate against showing FIV cats at their stores, so it made it especially hard to find Leon a home. In the end, it did not matter, because Leon found his forever home with us. He still plays like a kitten at 9 years old and gets along with everyone. He fits in perfectly into our busy household and we love him.
