This is sweet Sadie Sue the Blind Cat! I know we are not supposed to be defined by our frailties, but with Sadie, her blindness is what makes her so special!

Almost 2 years ago, I decided that I wanted to give a home to a "special " kitty. We already had three, who were very happy and healthy, but I knew that there were other kitties out there who might not otherwise have a happy home. I contacted several fosters I knew, and Laura told me that she had a blind kitty. We arranged to meet up, and when I first picked up Sadie, I knew she was a sweet kitty. To be perfectly honest, it wasn't love at first sight, but I knew that that would come with time. In the car on the way home, I lifted the top of her carrier and petted her sweet little head and looked into the eyes that couldn't look back at me. At that moment I started to feel that love.

I knew the protocol for introducing a kitty to a new home, but because of her blindness, I wanted to introduce her to our home quickly so that she might start to learn the nooks and crannies. I would talk to her and called her into different rooms, and I was shocked at how quickly she learned her way. Then I taught her where the potty was upstairs, and even with that, she learned how to climb the two short flights of stairs. I was shocked! We blocked the open staircase with children's books, so Cinderella and Peter Pan kept her safe! At bedtime, we would put her in the guest bathroom with her bed, so she would feel safe at night. But first thing in the morning, we would let her out and again, she would find her way around the house. It took her a total of about three days to learn our house!

As time went on, I realized that not only was she a smart cat, but she was a sweet cat. Initially, I made a stupid mistake by carrying her and putting my face near her paws... she got frightened and managed to put her claw through my cheek, but my husband removed it, and all was well. But she felt horrible and wanted to nuzzle afterwards.

We've now had her almost 2 years, and I can't believe how much I love this kitty. She is not an overly cuddly kitty, but I bring her under the covers with me at bedtime, and she puts her arms around my neck and her head on my shoulder. ❤️ I melt! And if she's particularly sleepy downstairs, I will pick her up and put her next to me and she will bury her head in my chest. I have never known a kitty like her. She knows every inch of the house and plays with all her toys. She also has no fear and has climbed the screen door many times! She loves to chase her older brother Nutty, which drives him crazy! She actually knows the difference between her brothers, and which ones to avoid or which ones to play with. If we are gone, she sits by the door waiting for us to come home.

But the sweetest moment I have ever experienced with her was Halloween. That's normally a time when the rest of our kitties hide and don't come out until later in the evening. But not Sadie! Every time the doorbell would ring she would run to the door! And there was this one young boy with glasses who came to the door and got so excited when he saw her. I explained about her blindness. He asked if he could come in and pet her, and my husband was a little bit nervous that she might swing at him in case she got frightened. But not Sadie! She let all the kids come in and pet her and thrived on it! And after the night was over, she sat by the door hoping that more children would come. ❤️

Not only is Sadie sweet and smart, in my eyes, she is the most beautiful kitty ever! I look into her one blue eye ( her other never formed), and I think it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I often get tears in my eyes as I remember that she was rescued on the day before she was to be put down at the shelter, and I thought how the vet would have to look into that beautiful blue eye while he put her to sleep.

I am so grateful to Laura and the others who helped save her life. And I am so happy that she came into our lives and so many others since I started her Facebook page. She's literally made friends around the world, and I read the joy that she brings into their lives, and I realize that she truly is a gift. We are blessed to have her in our family. Oh, and remember when I said it wasn't love at first sight? Well, I am an absolutely smitten kitten now! I can't believe how much I love this little girl! . ❤️
