Tell us your Kitten Rescue Story
Odin was born in a home that didn’t really care much about cats. They were mostly outdoors, neither neutered nor spayed.
One day, the careless owners abandoned him on the street, along with his mom and baby sisters. None of them survived, except Odin according to the neighbors.
A nice young man found him, starved and shaking. The well-intentioned man couldn't keep him and brought him to the closest shelter in town, a high-kill shelter, unfortunately. Odin was added to the euthanasia list right away since he was so skinny and weak. At the last minute, a rescue group brought him to one of their foster homes. There he received a lot of love and good care until he was 4 months old.
Meanwhile, Maria, a young student living in a tiny apartment with a roommate who had a dog, impulsively decided to get a cat since an extra dog wasn't allowed.
When she saw Odin at a pet store adoption event, she found him beautiful and decided to take him home.
Things didn’t turn out the way she'd expected. The roommate's dog was really rough with young Odin, lacking any education to get along with a cat. Odin ended up spending most of his time under his owner’s bed, eventually staying in the bedroom behind closed doors. His owner had a very active social life and came home late every day.
Odin grew anxious and depressed, crying at night to the dismay of his owner who would sometimes leave him in her car until morning.
Odin was neglected and abused for 2 1/2 years.
One day, the owner moved back to South America after her mom passed away, leaving Odin alone with the roommate and the spoiled dog.
The roommate found a new student to share the apartment with and decided to get rid of Odin.
She placed an add online, saying she couldn’t take care of him and she’d leave him on the street if nobody took him right away (thinking he’d have more chances to survive than at the shelter).
I called, went to Long Beach, talked to her, spent time with Odin and brought him home that same day.
Odin is still a bit shy today but he's doing so much better and he loves his new family of cats and humans.
He's under a safe roof now, finally!
