Tell us your Kitten Rescue Story
Nearly two years ago, I'd adopted Speedy, a very social four-month-old kitten, to be a companion to my older cat, Risky (who I'd rescued off the street many years earlier). They became best friends and Risky taught Speedy how to be a cat. Unfortunately, Risky passed away a little over a year later from kidney disease, and we both missed him terribly. I first saw Emmet's picture on Kitten Rescue's website when I was searching for a potential companion for Speedy and I. Something about his cute little mustache and playful pose stuck with me as I looked at other rescue kitties, and I didn't think I'd get him because he was so adorable and there were others interested in him. I went to meet him when he was in an art installation that served as an adoption vehicle. Of all the cats he was with living with at the time, he was the only one to come greet me and he was incredibly playful, just as I'd thought. I knew he'd be perfect for me and for Speedy, and I was right! Within three hours of introducing them (after the adoption was approved, of course!), they were romping around the house like littermates. Emmet was only four months old, so Speedy treated him like he was her kitten, grooming him and teaching him everything Risky taught her. Emmet has a great personality and is the most social kitty I know. He loves Speedy and me, and he loves meeting new people. He also loves water, jumping in the tub whenever I turn on the water, and licking the spigot in the sink so I'll run water for him to drink (he doesn't understand what a drought is!). His favorite thing is to tuck his head under my chin when I sleep, and he's not shy about snuggling up to me. He and Speedy are completely bonded, but she's so fast (per her name) that I couldn't get her in the shot so you can see why they love each other so. Emmet's loving nature has helped us both cope with the loss of Risky and brought a lot of joy into our lives. Even people who aren't "cat friendly" think Emmet's great. Some other Emmet traits: He's a lovebug and he hates not being in the center of the action. He once meowed like crazy while I was standing outside talking to a neighbor because he wanted to be included. His nickname is Mr. Moostache because of the cute Groucho smudge under his nose. He likes to follow me around the house and hang out wherever I am--unless Speedy wants to play :-) I'm very grateful to Kitten Rescue for allowing me to adopt such a great kitty, and I look forward to many years of enjoying his and Speedy's silly antics.
