Tell us your Kitten Rescue Story
Dinky was a stray kitten in South Los Angeles, desperate to escape the madness of the July 4th fireworks, when she crawled into the cool, quiet shelter of a car engine. But Dinky misunderstood the nature of her haven. The next morning someone started the car and Dinky got caught in the fan belt. She suffered catastrophic injuries: one rear foot had been amputated and the other rear leg was badly fractured, sustaining major tissue damage. The driver was absolutely horrified. The incident had broken her fan belt, so she was unable to drive Dinky to a vet, but she knew exactly who call: Kitten Rescue volunteer, Esther Alapy.

Esther rushed over, picked up Dinky and drove her to ASEC, a critical care and surgical specialty veterinary hospital. The vet performed emergency surgery on both legs and sticthed up the lacerations on her face. He amputated the rest of Dinky's left rear leg. The right rear leg needed complicated surgery, that included inserting a plate to set her leg. We were uncertain if Dinky would ever have use of her remaining back leg, but she has made an amazing recovery and gets around very well as a happy tri-pod!
