Sydney is a six-and-a-half-year-old chocolate Lab who has taught me that the greatest joys in life can come with four paws and a wagging tail.

She carries a toy in her mouth on her walks, as if it's the most important thing in the world. She loves to swim, and she has never met a meal she didn't love.

Sydney loves every season, but winter is her favourite. There's nothing quite like watching her on the first snow fall of the season, seeing her race through the snow, rolling in it and trying to eat every falling snowflake. With pure happiness in her eyes.

Sydney's greatest gift has always been her ability to make people smile. Somehow, with one look, one wag of her tail, or one of her perfectly timed big kisses, she could turn any bad day around.

No matter how hard the day has been, Sydney has a way of making everything feel okay again. She reminds me to slow down, find joy in the little things, and love with my whole heart.

If I could give her one thing in return for all the love she has given me, it would be this: a lifetime long enough for me to thank her for making my life so much more beautiful simply by being in it.
