Dog's Story
Thunder’s story began beside Highway 16 near Ward’s Chapel, where he was found abandoned as a tiny six-week-old puppy. What started as a rescue quickly became one of the greatest blessings our family has ever known.

Now 13 years old, Thunder is a one-of-a-kind mix of Beagle, Redbone Coonhound, and Shih Tzu — equal parts stubborn, adventurous, hilarious, and loving. He has spent his entire life at Lake Oconee alongside his best friend Hope, proudly serving as both loyal companion and local troublemaker.

Around the lake, Thunder is best known for his legendary escape adventures to the Landing North driving range and pickleball courts, where golfers, players, and staff quickly learned to expect him wandering through with his nose to the ground, tail to the air, and a heart full of love. No fence, gate, or plan could ever fully contain his curiosity for long.

But beneath the mischievous personality is a dog with an incredibly gentle soul. Thunder has comforted children, stayed close during hard seasons, welcomed everyone like an old friend, and loved his family with unwavering devotion every single day of his life.

As Thunder enters his senior years, our family treasures every moment with him. Honoring him through the 2026 Lakelife Lager Contest would celebrate a true Lake Oconee character whose joyful spirit and loving heart perfectly represent lake life.
