Pet's Story or Bio
In August 2014, MAMAS put a note on their Facebook page asking if anyone could take in a dying husky. He only had a few weeks to live. He was just rescued from a dirt yard in South Carolina and they wanted him to have a better place to live out his last few weeks. He had cancer and severe heart worm and was extremely underweight.
We moved into our new home on the eastern shore of Maryland the last weekend in August. It had a beautiful view and we thought would be a lovely place for an 8 year old husky to live out his last few weeks.
We were fortunate that my husband’s brother was a vet in the town we moved to. We brought Hunter in and he was able to remove the tumor during a 4 hour surgery, losing him once on the table. Once recovered from the surgery, we started heart worm treatment. It consisted of spinal injections and keeping Hunter quiet. His heart rate could not be elevated (which meant he could not run). This really wasn’t too difficult at first as he could barely walk without gasping for air.
On January 15, 2015 we were told he could “run like the wind” now! And run he did! His eyes sparkled as he zig-zagged across the field! He ran and ran! We were also told to put him on a diet-- he had gained more than enough weight!
During the spring Hunter helped me plant my huge vegetable garden. Every morning we would ride out to “tend our garden” in a second-hand golf cart we bought. He would proudly sit in the front seat keeping me company. I would say to him “if your friends at the shelter could only see you now!” He was so happy. I promised him he would never be alone again.
Unfortunately, the good life for Hunter was short. He passed away June 14, 2015…loved like never before in his life!
