Pet's Story or Bio
Gracie is a Beagle mix from M.A.M.A.S rescue group. Gail was her temporary foster mom, and Ruthie Rish was her adoption coordinator. She was a stray that was found by Gail and stayed with her for about 4-5 weeks as she underwent treatment for heartworm. Other than the positive Heartworm diagnosis and treatment, Gracie was healthy, spayed, and weighed 24-25 lbs.
On 1/7/12, Gracie made the road trip from Bamberg, SC (about a 10 hour van ride without food or water). A small group of about 10 people were also awaiting the arrival of the van to deliver their adopted dogs.
Paul and I eagerly awaited Gracie’s arrival that evening at the Strayer College parking lot on Eisenhower Ave in Alexandria, Virginia. As soon as Gracie came out of the van she immediately greeted us and rolled on her back for a belly rub. She filled our hearts with love and laughter the moment we met her. We both started to cry from being overwhelmed with joy. We continued Gracie on the "Heart Guard Plus" for 6 months and by July 2012, Gracie was HW negative—Yeah!!. Within 1 year Gracie was attending obedience classes and received the “Canine Good Citizenship” award. Then she became a therapy dog with the “Pets On Wheels Inc.”
Best dog ever--Merrilee
