Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) was formed in 2001. Located in Bamberg, SC. MAMAS, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves as the Bamberg county dog shelter.

MAMAS operates the shelter on a very limited budget. Last year, funding from local government was 13 percent of the shelter's $180K operating costs. The difference was made up through contributions, donations and adoptions.

Despite the financial challenges, we have been able to obtain and keep our no kill status for the past 6 years, and proudly boast a 98% save rate for 2014. This means every adoptable dog has a home with us until a screened and approved adopter or rescue can be found! Our emphasis is on returning unwanted, sick and injured dogs to good health – physically and mentally, until their new family or a rescue is found.

MAMAS and Safe Haven Puppy Rescue (the rescue division of MAMAS ) together with our transport team, MAMAS On the Move Transport, have made a significant contribution to Bamberg and surrounding counties by caring for abandoned and unwanted dogs while they await their chance to to be transported to new, loving homes or rescues.

Together, our goal is to continue to tackle the local problem of dog overpopulation by seeking spay/neuter grants, educating the community on the importance of responsible pet ownership and helping dogs currently in need by offering them a safe, loving environment as they transition to new lives.
