Hansel and Gretel came to us as seniors; they were raised together as a breeding pair, though its not clear it was the happiest of marriages. They complimented each other -- he heard for her (she's deaf) and she watched his back (his eyesight wasn't so good). But they groused at each other too. He'd eat her food, and she'd steal his toys. Hansel left us too soon, the victim of cancer and old age. But Gretel carries on with enough attitude for both of them. No squirrel, deer, raccoon or big dog passes without at least one warning bark. And every soft place in our house has a little Gretel indentation. We are grateful that she allows us to join her for a cuddle in bed, or a belly rub in the morning. Pointy ears or not, she's a Scottie through and through.
