H.I. is named for a lovable criminal character in the movie "Raising Arizona." We found our H.I. in WV on a bitingly cold Thanksgiving day in 2010. He was eating from garbage that had been dumped beside a lonely road, so we stopped to check him out. He was a mess and looked hungry and tired. He had no I.D., and was shivering with happiness to see someone, anyone! He immediately jumped into our truck and we took him home where he was coddled, treated, and loved. But it was there that we realized he truly was a little criminal; he had been stealing toys from our other dogs and dragging them back to his crate. His kennel had become a dragon's lair of dog toys. We dutifully redistributed the loot, but by the end of the day, they would once again be back in his greedy possession. Recidivism!
