Pet's QuirksCool, calm and confident. Makes the best biscuits on the Jersey Shore!
Pet's StoryButters is an 8-year-old, FIV+ orange tabby who was rescued by Humane World for Animals from a severe hoarding situation in February 2025. He had been living in deplorable conditions with more than 100 other animals—including cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, donkeys, alpacas, and even a pig. Once medically cleared, he was transported to the Monmouth County SPCA in May.
Before moving back home to the Jersey Shore and beginning her volunteer work at the Monmouth County SPCA, Sydney always thought of herself as a “dog person.” She’d met plenty of cool cats, but never really wanted to add one to her pack—until she met the Cat Adoption Counselors at the MCSPCA.
Over several years of volunteering, witnessing countless adoptions, and meeting many more cats, Sydney slowly warmed up to the idea of adding a feline to her family. But it had to be the RIGHT cat.
That’s when the matchmaking magic began!
In the spring of 2025, she spoke with the Cat Adoption Manager, Nina, about her “dream cat”: a chill, adult male who not only tolerated dogs, but genuinely enjoyed their company. A confident, social, affectionate “cool cat” who wouldn’t run and hide when guests came over—essentially, a dog in cat pajamas. It seemed like a tall order, but the team was up for the challenge and already had a few cats in mind. Sydney just had to be patient...
Fast forward to today: Butters is everything Sydney hoped for and more. In less than 48 hours, he was sleeping in bed with the rest of the pack and had quickly acclimated to the household—even with regular visits from a 10-month-old puppy. He’s the perfect addition to the family!
