Cardi B walked into the lobby of MEHS as an owner surrender one day while I was at work — no leash, just those wide eyes and the calmest vibe. I jumped up to grab one so she was secured; she looked up at me, and that was it. I was in love.

I’ve fostered countless pets over the years, always keeping space for a third temporary guest. Even when it broke my heart, I said goodbye because I see the need for fosters every day at the shelter. But something about Cardi literally rewired my brain chemistry and I couldn't let her go.

She came home in January, and we made it official in February. Our dogs Dewey & Vivian might say otherwise, but she was the missing piece. She looks at me like I’m her entire world, and even though I miss fostering, I'd choose her every time.
