Our beloved elderly basenjis Ivan and Dasa both left us in the last twelve months. Our house was much too empty and sad so we adopted Tiegan from Basenji Rescue and Transport. Our sweet little girl is 18 months old, and we are her fifth (and last!) home. If you have not done your research and do not know what to expect, adding a basenji to your family can be a disaster, especially for the basenji. She is a door-bolter, a high energy, high prey drive typical basenji youngster. The squirrels in our backyard now have very exciting lives.
We installed child-proof latches on our bathroom cabinets because she could open them with her nose. Tiegan’s such a clever little girl. We love watching how she thinks things through. In addition to being sweet, social, and thoroughly delightful, she is really quite well-behaved for a basenji. Tiegan is 18 pounds of sunshine and magic.
