Pet's Story or Bio
Yoda was found abandoned on a very busy street in Boston. I pulled my car over thinking the tiny animal I saw must have been a kitten. When I got to her, it was a little two-pound chihuahua who was covered in wounds, filthy, starving, and somehow happy to see a human who wanted to help. I took her to my vet, he bathed her so he could treat her. She had no chip and the techs searched all sites to make certain she didn't belong to someone. He treated the wounds, cut her nails that were grown into her skin, and cleaned her ears. He said he couldn't do anything further because she was too weak. So for two months, we nursed her back to health, with many vet visits to help her reach that magic weight of five pounds. At that point, she could be spayed and have her teeth cleaned. The day came and we celebrated our large-eared Star Wars baby. She was guessed to be approximately six years old. She became my service dog and was the most disciplined dog I had ever set my eyes on. For the next ten years, she was by my side. Everyone loved her and felt such joy when she was around. She comforted people and brought love and laughter to many elderly folks who have experienced so much loss. Yoda taught me so many lessons it is hard to name how much she changed my own life. She taught me how to live in the day, to grab onto joy and hold it, to become more spiritual, and to trust my gut (she knew who the good people were and who I needed to stay away from). She was fiercely loyal, kind, a friend, and one of the great loves of my life. As her ern says "If love could have saved her, she would have been here forever". Yoda crossed The Rainbow Bridge less than one year ago. I am still grieving and crying often. However, I do know that those ten years were the best gift I could have ever gotten and I wouldn't change one minute of it. How I miss you, sweet girl. I wish you all could have known her.
