“In every girl’s life, there’s a boy she’ll never forget and a Summer where it all began…” The year 2008 was that summer for my husband and I. Madeira, Portugal (his home town and my summer home) was where two completely different worlds collided. My husband was born and raised in a small town on this island better known as the “Pearl of the Atlantic.” I, in the city of San Diego, California. At 18, he became an industrial fisherman, fishing in places from American Samoa, Ecuador, El Salvador and beyond. When we met that 2008 summer, no one was optimistic, not even us. Estevo would spend 6-8 months out of the year at sea, while I sat by the phone for his, always random, phone calls. I would travel to El Salvador & Ecuador to see him, sometimes for only 3 days. It wasn’t easy, but as cliché as it may be I can now say it was worth it. After 6 fun, interesting, and very long years- we tied the knot surrounded by our amazing family and friends. We have done what some deem impossible and we have become one….. Welcome to our Happily ever After.
