Your Pet's Rescue StoryFollowing a dog attack in our neighbor's backyard that sent one of our adopted feral cats, Pepper, up a tree, we found out she had had kittens. We gathered them all up, or so we thought, and placed them in a box on our back porch and waited for Pepper to come down. When she finally came down and started coming over to the porch, trailing along behind her was the tiniest black and white kitten we had ever seen. Pepper and the kittens spent the weeeknd in the box on our back porch. By the time the weeeknd was over all 3 kittens had names and we could begin to see their personalities developing. On Monday morning, we moved everyone to the garage as it was supposed to rain and we didn't want the little family getting wet. When we got home, the box was empty except for the one little black and white kitten. Cupcake had been abandoned by her mom. We couldn't understand why since Pepper took the other 2 kittens but we were not about to let the kitten starve. We brought her in, much to the chagrin of our 5 year old Siamese, Coconut, fed her, gave her milk from a bottle and made plans to hopefully return her to her mom. Unfortunately, Pepper didn't come back. So, Cupcake became a member of the family. That Saturday we took Cupcake to the vet and found out why she had been left behind. There we found out she had a ventricular septal defect and would need to see a cardiologist in order to determine what was best for her. After 3 echocardiograms in a little over a year, we were told she would always have the defect but was being cleared by the doctor. I know many would say we rescued her but in reality, she rescued us as her older sister passed away this past January from a massive stroke. It was so comforting, after having one to pass, to come home to another furry friend each day.
