Your Pet's Rescue Story
While we did not initially rescue Fiona from Orlando Pet Alliance she has become a big part of our family and we love her very much. Our friends adopted her as "Daisy" in April of 2016. Her records stated that she'd originally been adopted from the Pet Alliance 1 year prior at 8 weeks old & when they contacted the owners they stated that they did not want her back. Soon after bringing her home our friends left her alone & upon their return she had done an extensive amount of damage to their home. Because we already had 3 dogs they reached out to my wife & I for advice. We suggested they get her a crate, set up a routine, & exercise her prior to leaving her alone. While we had not yet met her it sounded like she had separation anxiety & was not house broken. When they brought "Daisy" over to meet our crew she immediately bonded with our 1 year old Pup. It was very obvious she had been abused but she was super sweet with all of our dogs. We encouraged our friends to be patient with her & stick to the suggested routine in order to get her acclimated to her new environment. In spite of their efforts after 3 weeks, they decided she would be going back to the pound unless we wanted to take her. During that time we had her at our house on many occasions. She & our pup Olive had become true BFF's. We felt she would not do well going back to the pound for now a 3rd time so we agreed to take her. We decided to give her a fresh start & changed her name to Fiona. She very much resembles the Ogre Princess from Shrek. In our home she still struggled with separation anxiety. We have never yelled at her or scolded her for being destructive or going potty in the house. We took her to the dog park daily & the Home Depot to get her used to all kinds of people. It was when we took all the dogs to St. Pete for a week that we discovered her LOVE of the BEACH. Before the trip she really showed no personality, at the beach she wagged her tail & jumped with excitement & she started eliminating outside on leash! Our senior dogs have since passed taking us from a 4 dog family to a 2 dog family over the past year. Luckily they heirloomed some of their quirky personality traits into Fiona & she has been known to swipe a sip of wine from time to time when we're not looking. The best news is she no longer needs a crate & Olive's bestie is now her sister! Owning a Bully breed is not easy as they often get a bad wrap. We truly wish that all dogs be given the chance to show their inner prince or princess.
