Your Pet's Rescue StoryI had rescued a male Basset Hound here in Orlando about 4 summers ago, but after only having him 5 months, he passed away suddenly out of the blue from HGE. :-( He was fine one day with no warnings/issues at all - and within 24 hours he had died. Of course, I was very sad. About 6 months after that my aunt in St. Louis got in touch with me and told me that her good friend (who works at a Humane Society in Jonesboro, Arkansas) had a male Basset Hound turned in there that needed a home. This Basset Hound was turned in to the shelter emaciated - he weighed less than 30 pounds, and he also had heart worms. He was treated at the Humane Society for his heartworms, and as such - he needed to have a name for his medical records. The staff there felt that he looked like a "Homer". I called my aunt's friend in Arkansas, and we arranged for me to drive out to Arkansas over the weekend of Memorial Day weekend 2014 - a few months away - that would give Homer enough time to be recovered from his heartworms treatment. So, after driving 14 hours each way to Arkansas (with an overnight stay there) - I brought Homer "home" on that Memorial Day - and my neighbors and I staged a "Welcome Homer" party for his arrival! ;-) Homer and I have been great pals ever since! Homer was worth every mile (830 miles each way) of the trip! :-) As you can see from that face - I couldn't possibly have said "no"! :-D
