Your Pet's Rescue StoryAfter the loss of a previous cat, I was heartbroken and the thought of having another pet wasn't something I was ready for anytime soon. It took over a year before I decided I was ready. I visited my local shelters at the time as well as frequented PetFinder during my search.
Then one day during my search online, there she was. I was awe-struck by her. She was gorgeous and I just had to meet her. I made the 45 minute trek one weekend to meet her at an out of town PetSmart.
To my surprise, she ended up not being much like her photo and description. She was completely uninterested in me and was blind in one eye. Admittedly, I was feeling let down. Just then, her foster mother walked in, and she sprung right up, full of excitement and my heart swelled. There was that personality they described! The one blind eye got to me as well. She was perfectly imperfect for me. I ended up taking her home with me that day.
The transition period turned out to be a challenging one for both of us. Her foster mom had nicknamed her Peepers because she was always hiding and peeping around corners. Between that and her blind eye, Creepers seemed more appropriate and it was an easy transition since she already acknowledged "Peepers." She was extremely anxious and having trouble adjusting. I hate to say it, but I almost gave up on her. I decided to give it some more time though, and within a few months, she settled down and I am forever glad I didn't give up. She's been a part of my life for the last 6 years and we have become weirdly similar. She especially kept me sane during my move to Orlando a year and a half ago. We moved here alone, not knowing anyone, for a job I took. Now we are cozy and living happily in our little world together. I love the sound of her meows before I get to the front door everyday after work, watching her freak out over a hair tie, and how she always needs to be in whatever room I'm in. She's crazy and silly and sweet and I love that she's mine.
