Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red
Your Pet's Rescue StoryI saw Minnie Mouse when looking at OCAS website. I immediately fell in love with her. The day I planned on going to put an application in to adopt her, the website said she was taken. I was very disappointed. I could not stop thinking and talking about her at work. A co-worker asked to see her picture on the website. Imagine my delight when it showed her available for adoption. The next morning I rushed down to the shelter to put in my application. The person who had put in his application before me, backed out. Maybe because she was in isolation because of the condition of her skin. They were afraid she had mange. It turned out not to be mange but malnutrition. She weighed 4 lbs. You could see her ribs and the bones in her spine jutting out. The shelter had her spade and vaccinated. I was so overjoyed to get her. I have 2 other dogs so I set her up in her own room to recuperate. Two days later, when I came home from work, I found her honking like a goose. I rushed her to the Pet ER as it was 2 in the morning. She was diagnosed with kennel cough. They gave me antibiotics for her. The next morning, a Sunday, she took a turn for the worse. I rushed her back to the ER. It had turned to pneumonia. They treated her all day Sunday and released her to me Monday morning. I was told to get her in to her vet to continue treatment. Her breathing was labored and she looked so frail. I got her in to the vet who kept her most of the day giving her breathing treatments and IVs as she was not eating. He added another antibiotic. When I took her home I would try to get her to eat soft food and gave her the meds. I also would put her in the bathroom with a humidifier to help her breath. I would carry her outside so she could pee and then bring her back inside. She was too weak to walk. Thankfully I was off that week so I could care for her. She got a little better, then regressed. I took her back to the vet who added another antibiotic. I had to go to Maitland to a special pharmacy to get this prescription. This did the trick. That night she started eating and just kept getting better. Now she is full of pep and energy. It was a long hard struggle to get where she is today. I almost gave up. It was hard watching her struggle to breath. I'm glad I we both hung in there. It was very expensive but I don't regret any of it. I believe it was meant for me to have her. Not just anyone would spend $3,000 on a new dog in one week. We are lucky to have found each other.
