Your Pet's Rescue Story
After 3 years, I gave up asking my husband for a dog. I reluctantly accepted defeat. Like usual, he went to his favorite local birdwatching drive on a near freezing Florida winters day. He spotted a beautiful painted bunting and went after it to photograph it. Following the trail, he came across a dog in such bad shape, he thought she wouldn’t make it. He pulled his truck around, and she loaded right up. He took her to our veterinarian. When signing her in, they asked if we had a name for her yet, and we decided on LadyBird, as she was found following a bird. She was malnourished, had a massive ear infection, skin conditions and her teeth had been filed down. It was obvious she was used to breed puppies and was used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. These monsters then dumped her, as they had no more use for her. We were disgusted and horrified at how people could do this to an animal. My husband looked at me and said, “I think we need to keep this dog. Is that ok?” and of course, I said yes. She required a tremendous amount of care and we were so happy to give it to this sweet animal. We were amazed at how loving and trusting she was to humans after what had been done to her. She is the most forgiving spirit I have ever known. After sharing her story with our friends on social media, we went to a follow up appointment at the vets. When we went to pay, we found out that people had gone to our vets office to donate money toward her care. Our faith in humanity was restored. Her story touched so many people, we had to create her her own Facebook page. She is a bit of a celebrity now and puts a smile on everyone’s face that meets her. She loves her visits to the vets office as she gets so much attention and so many treats! They love to see her progress there. We have had her about 6 months now, and she has proven to be the sweetest, most loving and loyal dog I have ever known. I’m grateful my husband found her and brought her home to us. I’m equally grateful for the love she gives us, and for her hopefully converting my husband into needing a dog in the family forever now. I only wish we could take more dogs in just like her. Maybe one day, we can.
