Your Pet's Rescue Story
I rescued Oscar in 2003 when he was only 12 weeks old. I was going through a bad time in my life and as soon as I saw him I knew he needed me as much as I needed him. When I asked to hold him he wrapped his paws around my neck, nuzzled against my cheek and cried whenever I tried to put him down. We have been inseparable ever since. He was sickly when I rescued him and has overcome many health struggles over the past 15 years, including being diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 7. I am happy to say he has been in remission from diabetes for almost 5 years and although he still struggles with other health issues he never lets any of it get him down. He runs to the door to greet me every day when I come home from work and demands to be held instantly. He still gives me around-the-neck hugs like he did the very first time I held him. He has been by my side through many milestones in my life and has been my best and most loyal friend through some of my hardest times.

He has several food allergies so instead of cat treats he can only have plain turkey breast. Because of this, Thanksgiving is obviously his favorite holiday. Each year we put a step stool in front of the oven so he can watch his turkey cook as if he is watching his favorite TV show. For the days following Thanksgiving, he is the guardian of the leftovers and will require everyone to pay him a “turkey toll” if they need something from the refrigerator. His meow is just a raspy whisper but he has a lot to say anyway and will give anyone an earful if they forget to pay the toll.

He greets everyone who comes into the house as if they have come over specifically to hold him and pet him. As soon as someone walks in the door he welcomes them with head butts and requires them to pet him. He then immediately escorts them to the kitchen where he will lecture his guest on how there are turkey treats in the fridge that he can have. He will then put his paws up to be held. If his house guest has a bag or purse he also has to inspect it to see if they have any hair ties he can steal and add to his food dish (where he keeps his favorite toys).

He is my constant sidekick. He loves car rides and on my days off he likes to come for a ride through the Starbucks drive-thru with me. The baristas know him by name.. he only wishes they could make him a turkey frappuccino!

He loves being the center of attention and having his picture taken. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him and I'm lucky to call him My Best Friend.
