Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red
Your Pet's Rescue StoryYara was found roaming the streets of Polk county just after hurricane Irma. She was labeled a Chow and was put in a hold for 3 days before she was to be euthanized. She had mange and open sores all over her body. She had worms to the point that she looked pregnant. She was extremely underweight and just terrified. I saw her on a Facebook feed for a Chow rescue and knew I had to get her home. I called several rescues in the area to help me pull her as she was restricted to rescue only. Finally, days later, a local rescue got her and I traveled 90 min to pick her up. She laid in the floor of my care, absolutely frightened. She smelled terrible and would not walk. I got her home, got her to the vet the same day, and started giving her food, meds, several bathes, and love. We had other dogs who she ignored, so we took our time with introducing everyone. About 6 weeks into her stay, we decided to start bringing her out with the others and she just watched and watched. Finally, after about 2 weeks, she walked over to our other female and initiated a play bow. We were so excited to see her play and run, we cheered and even cried a little. She had become a full member of our family and she and her sister are inseparable. We are so happy we found her and while we know she is still recovering from her time on the streets, not a day goes by where we don’t remind her that she is home and we will never let anything bad happen to her again. I included a recent picture of her, but would love to be able to share her before picture so you see what love and care did for this little girl. Btw, the Vet placed her at a year when we found her and she had been on the street for sometime. What a terrible way for a little pup to start out life. We named her after a character in Game of Thrones who is the queen of the Iron Islands and was a strong survivor.
