Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red
Your Pet's Rescue StoryWhen we first saw Gramps at OCAS last summer we instantly fell for his sweet face. When we read his kennel notes and saw he was surrendered at 14 years old we knew he was coming home with us. He was skinny, sad, and sick. We suspected we would only have a few weeks or months at most with him, but one year later he is now a healthy and happy 15 year old.
His favorite hobby is pig farming. He currently has four pigs and is very protective of them. The pigs have a barn we sometimes put them in, but Gramps prefers them to be "free range" and immediately pulls them all out. He enjoys carrying a pig on walks with us, moving them all around his room, keeping them away from his dog brother and sleeping with them. He will sometimes bring one to us to throw for him, but mostly he doesn't allow us to touch them!
He also enjoys getting frequent belly rubs and will repeatedly pull your hand back to let you know you're not done yet. His other favorite activity is eating treats, doggy ice cream, blueberries, cucumbers, sticks, the occasional rock, basically everything he can fit in his mouth.
I know many people are hesitant to adopt a senior dog. We certainly were. Senior dogs have so many benefits though that outweigh the limited time you may have with them. Not only was he already potty trained and a little on the lazy side, he has also been a calming influence on our high energy younger dog. Most of all, our family and Gramps really appreciate every day we have together. It has been a wonderful experience and we will certainly adopt a senior pet again in the future!
