Your Pet's Rescue Story
Nika becoming part of our family was fate. When a coworker first posted about trying to find a home for a neighbor's cat who could no longer be cared for, I thought nothing of it. But as weeks passed and the cat continued to go without a home, I couldn't help but be drawn in by the pictures and descriptions of a fluffy-tailed cat with a bold personality and equally loud voice to match.

My boyfriend, Alex, and I had been wanting to adopt a pet since moving to Orlando the previous year, but had yet to make any official steps towards starting the process. Seeing Nika's pictures and reading her story, it felt like she was waiting just for us. We decided that if she was still looking for a home after Christmas, we would make her ours. On New Years Eve, the decision to welcome her into our family became final and we picked her up on January 8th, 2018.

Since welcoming her into our family, our lives have changed in ways we never predicted. We can no longer shower or use the bathroom with the door closed unless we want to hear her crying from the other side. We have figured out that the garbage can must be kept in the closet unless we want its contents spilled all over the floor. We have learned that alarm clocks are no longer necessary if you're waking up after 5AM. We have added cat fur to all of our belongings, deeming it an accessory.

But we have also come to realize that Nika is what our tiny family was missing all along. She is my constant company when Alex works late nights and I come home to an otherwise empty apartment. She is Alex's porch-sitting buddy on the rare cool, dry Florida evenings. She is our endless entertainment, sprinting around the house in pursuit of a thrown foam ball (her favorite).

Rescuing Nika has changed our lives in ways we never could have imagined or foreseen. She made us, a young couple with no connections in Florida, into a family of our own.
