Your Pet's Rescue Story
After our beloved Shih Tzu of 17 years passed away in 2013, my husband and I weren't sure we would ever get another dog. Two years later, our hearts were healed and also lonely without a dog in the house. We decided that rescuing was our only option and began the search for the perfect dog for our family. I found a dog that I thought would be perfect for us, he was in Sarasota. We headed to Sarasota for the weekend to meet, and bring home, our new best friend. Our car was packed full with the supplies we would need, we were certain that we would bring him home at the end of the weekend. Well, I didn't bond with him and was totally heartbroken, I felt terrible and hated leaving him with his foster mom, but just couldn't picture him as part of our family. I was so sad and cried for days. After this initial attempt at adopting, I realized that rescue, for me, was a little like online dating. I needed to meet the dog and the dog needed to meet me, before we could decide if it's a match! Because I felt this way, it was so important for us to find a rescue organization here in Orlando. A friend of mine sent me some photos and information on Poodle and Pooch Rescue here in Orlando. We completed the application and several days later were contacted about two puppies that were rescued from Craigs List. They were six weeks old, about the size of guinea pigs, and anemic from being eaten by so many fleas. We went to meet them, they were so fragile, but still so happy, and we immediately fell in love. I wanted to rescue both, but my husband said only one, and said I had to choose! In the end, Stella chose us, she was more playful with us and we knew she was the one! We have been a happy family ever since. Stella is part terrier (we weren't expecting that, she totally looked like a Shih Tzu puppy), and is very playful, and sometimes a rascal. She is smart and funny and we love her so much. Aside from cuddling on the couch and chasing her ball, Stella's favorite pastimes include, traveling with us near and far, having her belly rubbed, once a week dates with her friends at day camp, barking at the UPS driver, and dining al fresco all around Orlando. While Stella doesn't drink wine, she is very supportive of our wine habit, and she would be so honored to be on the label of Quantum Leap's wine, My Best Friend Rescue Red!
