Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red
Your Pet's Rescue StoryThe statement that the dog rescues you, you don’t rescue the dog couldn’t be more true for Scooby and I. Only a couple months after rescuing him, my life was turned upside down when I accepted a role at Disney in Florida and left my family and friends behind to pursue my dream. Those first few months of being here were the hardest part of my life. I knew no one, I didn’t know how to get anywhere, and I missed my family so much. Scooby was by my side during it all and got me through every moment of discovering Orlando, and who I wanted to be. I remember all of those nights, coming home in tears, and us walking the neighborhood until they stopped and I was smiling at the pink Florida sunset. When I look back on my five years in Florida now, I am so thankful for the discoveries I have made. The tears, the laughs, the friends, and the strength I have found. But the best part is I have found myself and grown a home here independently, which was so important to me.
Just about a year ago, Scooby was diagnosed with an autoimmune type disorder that affects his mouth, and most of his teeth were removed. The outpouring of love and support that was given to me during that time was unbelievable. So many of the people I love and cherish came together to provide comfort, help with funds, and advice. This humbling experience and the growth from it all reminded me of when I first moved here.
I firmly believe that without Scooby, I wouldn’t have made it here in Florida, become the best ‘me’ possible, learned who is on my side and supporting me, and achieved the goals I set for myself. He has taught me to be strong, stick it out, ask for help, and find joy in the small moments and pink Florida sunsets. He has given me the strength to be me and the heart to have a home in Florida. I am so thankful for my best friend.
