Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red

Your Pet's Rescue StoryIn 2018, I lost my two dogs. My senior rescue pug, Bo, needed to put down in April. I had had him for about six years, and I knew my time with him was limited, but the end came too quickly. In October, my 13 year old Bichon Friese, threw up and became very ill around 7:30am one more morning, and she suddenly died around 1:30am that night. I had had Snowflake since she was a puppy. I was stunned. My daughter, Claire, a year older than her "littermate" Snowflake was by my side, and the dogs', for each passing. The house, like our hearts, was empty. I hoped to get another dog. A month later, I felt ready, but Claire was extremely reluctant. I continued to wait, but still visited shelters or rescue websites. In March, 2019, I started to look in earnest, and Claire, still reluctant, joined me. We walked passed the barking dogs, desperate for attention. I picked a dog for a meet and greet, and it zoomed around the enclosure. I came back inside, and Claire was standing outside a kennel. A dog sat quietly, looking at us. Claire said, "How about this one?" Claire had found Sally. Sally is an incredible dog. Yes- all dogs are incredible, but Sally instantly bonded with us. She knows sit, stay and paw. She follows me reliably without a leash (though I do keep her on a leash during walks). She is friendly with children and adults. She is not a "barky" dog, but will bark when she feels the need to protect us. She loves to play fetch. She may have some hound or Rhodesian Ridgeback in her. The shelter said she was four years old. The vet said maybe more like six, so I say five. What I do know- is she is one good doggo. She was found as a stray. Someone loved her and took care of her, and something happened. Our hearts have both been broken and we have both felt at a loss. We are now helping each other to mend and are ever so happy. Cheers!
