Your Pet's Rescue Story
Rescued Maddison and her brother together, as the local rescue facility was trying to have them adopted together. Was tough since they were middle age and Jack Russell's. Yet when the separate Foster people brought each to the facility it was so very obvious that they not only missed each other, needed each other and did indeed belong together forever. Was looking at adopting a single dog yet immediately decided to adopt both Maddison and her brother Maitland. They were 5 (Maddison) and 7 (Maitland) at time of adoption. They were so attached to each other though not the same litter. They would sit in a chair together most often. Driving home from adoption facility they were so excited to ride and be together. Upon home, so excited, they ran throughout house and than to have a yard to run in (is privacy fenced)! Was like two little kids in a candy store!! Was not long before they found the wicker baskets of toys and they could not believe their eyes! They always slept together. Maitland was her protector big brother until he developed an uncommon rare disease called Hepatocutaneous syndrome, than became diabetic, eventually went blind before passing. Maddison became his protector when he became ill. Roles reversed and was amazing to watch. And now though not same litter Maddison has become diabetic and eye sight is deteriorating. She was very depressed for about a month after her brother passed yet has been a champion like her brother in dealing with diabetes, receiving twice daily insulin shots, besides the change in lifestyle and other issues. Above all she is - as all my dogs over the years have been - my best friend. She goes everywhere with me to places that are pet friendly. Ace Hardware, Home Depot, outdoor restaurants, pet stores (everyone knows her!) and long road trips with stay at pet friendly hotels. Though not as vivacious, energetic as in her youth she is always ready for a ride, walk, play and of course rubs. Maddison follows in the paw steps of not only her brother as a Champion, yet 6 other adopted or rescued dogs over the years and she is a loving companion. Always happy, cheery, loving and by my side. Is my pleasure to care for her, and am so glad adopted both, that our paths crossed at the right time to keep them together and help them live long, comfortable lives. Maddison will be 14 in 8 days (birthday is July, 18th) at time of this entry. Will take her to her favorite toy store so she can pick out toy(s) and put in basket! All the time her little tail wagging with excitement. Always in and living the moment. Something we humans forget to do at times and am glad Maddison reminds me daily! Maddison of course does not drink wine, yet would love to bring smiles to others by adorning a bottle of your wine! Cheers, smiles, licks and joy!
