Cat - My Best Friend Rescue White
Entrant's First NameBane
Your Pet's Rescue StoryBane the cat here. I am entering my little brother Luke in the photo contest because (sigh, I can’t believe I’m saying this) this shelter cat has become my best friend. Plus, I want to win because my mom is nicest when she has wine. Here’s how we got Luke…without consulting with me, the patriarchal ruler of the household, my family went to Pet Alliance and fell for a derpy little grey cat. Even though they were told by the volunteers there that he was “the most vocal” cat they had known, my family still decided to bring him home. They said something about “Ohana” and nobody getting left behind. This guy doesn’t know how good he had it at Pet Alliance. He was fed every day and petted by the nicest volunteers. My litter was born in a storm drain and survived on scraps! The next few weeks after Luke came home were an absolute nightmare for me. This new cat took all my favorite hiding places, ate out of my bowl, howled at night, chased me, and tried to snuggle me! He didn’t know anything…I had to teach him how to wake up the humans when you want something or need to make an announcement, how to ensure that the litter box is cleaned properly, how to get the dogs in trouble for the bad things that we do, and how to hold your ground in doorways to assert your authority. I was so busy looking after Luke, I no longer had time to hide in the closet avoiding contact and exercise. I guess he taught me some things too, like how to socialize with the dogs and humans, how to play with catnip toys and real lizards, and how to give sandpaper kisses. Would you believe it, this little guy has grown on me? He’s not as handsome as say, a tuxedo cat like myself, but he’s pretty cute. Also, would you look at that boopable nose and those pink toe beans?! I love my family now, have made new friends, lost a little weight, and enjoy a more active and fulfilling lifestyle… all thanks to Pet Alliance and this adorable little furball.
