Your Pet's Rescue StoryMarco Polo, our Pom, was rescued by the Oregon Dog Rescue Society from a high kill shelter in CA and brought up to Oregon. Despite being so undernourished, small and scared, he never stopped wagging his tail and snuggling when I whisked him up in my arms and brought him home. He stole my heart when I first laid eyes on him. He is the most happy-go-lucky little guy ever and he makes everyone laugh with his enthusiasm and joy in loving (and entertaining) EVERYONE! Since he had “no name” on the adoption paperwork, we gave him a “right proper” one and he lives up to it, Marco Polo. He loves being "on the water" with us on our boat and it is hard to keep him out of the water! Perhaps in his little body he sees himself as a big lab! Nothing more exciting to him than pulling into a marina and walking the docks meeting “new friends.” When we are on the beach, he always wants to join the many birds there. If you are having a bad day ... he will brighten it. If you are not feeling well ... he will make you feel better. He has been in nursing homes to cheer up the folks there. He loves to play with children of all ages. I think he will be a puppy forever (he is 8 years old now). The picture was taken after going to the doggie "beauty parlor." The staff always comment on how he is so good during his grooming time; in fact, they don't even have any restraints on him when on the table. He just calmly sits while they "do their magic." His "pawgress" reports when picking him up are always A+. When we need to board him for a bit, the attendants say he is friendly and very playful with all dogs, big or small. When he sees a shy little guy, he will go over and win him over. His substitute for not being around "his" boat, is plopping in the middle of the baby pool for an extended time! If no little pool is there, he will just find a bowl of water and sit in it to cool off. You can tell that he is quite the "clown." I could go on and on "singing his praises" but it would put me well over the allowed 500 words. In a nutshell, he is “SIMPLY THE BEST!”
