Your Pet's Rescue Story
Fritz was 14 years old and very sick when he was surrendered to the Humane Society of Vero Beach. His owners loved him but knew he needed more care than they could give him. He had basically given up, he was no longer grooming himself and barely eating.

The staff at HSVB saw something special in him and decided to find out if he could be saved. They cleaned him up and ran multiple diagnostic tests, only to find that he was diabetic. Again, those caring for him recognized he needed more care than they could give him. The shelter director reached out to the Humane Society of Naples who have a program for special needs cats. And they would have been able to care for him until he got adopted.

But the trip from Vero Beach to Naples is a long one and I volunteered to be a stop-over for him, midway between. He could stay in my guest room, I thought. And then I would drive him to his new shelter in Naples. I decided to sleep with him that night and kept the door closed as we drifted off to sleep.

But of course, my own cats would not be ignored! They busted into the room while I was sleeping and I woke up in the morning to find Fritz snuggled up with three of his new brothers. Needless to say, the trip to Naples never happened. Fritz is now living his best life with a handful of other senior cats who adore him, and a mama who will go to great lengths to give him the care he needs.
