Your Pet's Rescue Story
Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red
Olive has been with us for just a short 6 months but needless to say she’s turned our lives upside down in the best possible way. Olive, an owner surrender, was being held in a Polk county shelter and had been living there for almost three months. The shelter photos showed her cramming herself into the corner of her cell, trying to be as invisible as possible, and looking utterly terrified. They had her marked as a pit bull mix and as a senior. We do some work with a Florida-based Shar Pei rescue who heard about Olive, saw that she clearly was not any of the things the shelter had her labeled and asked if we would take on another senior as a foster and since we already had three others, we figured “what’s one more?”. We drove down to pick up this scared “old lady” only to be told that she was in fact not a senior but was only about one year old and appeared to actually be a Shar Pei/German Shepherd mix. The second she came out to us her giant German Shepherd ears popped up and she instantly went from terrified inmate to the playful, adorable puppy that she is. While she pesters her older siblings, she is hands down the sweetest, snuggliest, most loving dog that anyone has ever met. Everyone stops us on the street to ask about her because she’s so bubbly and obviously such a super strange mix that she’s not met a single person or pup that hasn’t been instantly drawn to her. It’s upsetting to think of the huge discrepancies of the shelter and to think she lived there unloved, terrified and hugely misrepresented for so long because of these things and it breaks our hearts but we’re so happy to have her, even if she had to go through all of that because now she’s living an amazing life and we’re beyond grateful for her.
