Your Pet's Rescue Story
Cat - My Best Friend Rescue White
I firmly believe that Otis and I rescued each other. He has become my furry best friend. At the time I got him, I was a junior in college. I had just gotten out of a toxic relationship in which I had been cheated on and mentally abused, and I felt very alone. I have grown up with cats all of my life, so figured now was the time to get one of my own to help get rid of the sadness and instead bring sunshine and joy to my days. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was walking around the different cages when I saw little Otis (then at the time his name was Igor). His beautiful blue eyes were the first thing that captured me (hence why I chose the picture I chose). Like me, he seems full of sadness too, like something was missing. I immediately knew he was the cat for me, but when I told the person at the shelter, they made comment that he wasn’t a very friendly cat. I was able to have a one-on-one meet with him in a separate closed room. When they shut the door, Otis came right up to me and started sniffing my hands and rubbing against me. I don’t know what they were talking about not being friendly. He was just waiting for the perfect owner. I felt nothing but love and connection in that moment and took him home that day. He is a spunky little guy, always bouncing around and wanting to play (he loves his fake wine bottle catnip toys) or just love up on you and sit on your lap. He has brought so much laughter and joy to my life, and I can tell each day he seems to be happier and happier. And the reason for the name Otis? I am a pastry chef, and Otis Spunkmeyer cookies are my favorite cookies out there, so I wanted my new favorite animal to have something special to me.
