Your Pet's Rescue Story
Dog - My Best Friend Rescue Red
It’s been four years since the passing of our black lab and I was ready to adopt, but my husband wasn’t. However, we made an agreement that when we stopped traveling and bought another house we would adopt a dog.
Three months after we bought our house I sent him a few possible dogs I saw online, and that’s all it took... he was hooked! Two weeks later (after he was searching daily for our new lab) he found Bowie. He called me right away and said we have to go see this dog. When we got to the shelter we could tell that Bowie was traumatized from being left at the shelter. He’s a six-year-old black lab, who just got neutered, and was now living in a very strange environment. My husband was unsure because Bowie was distant, unaffectionate, and the staff said they weren’t even able to get near him for the first three days because he would growl at them...but I knew… I knew the second we got him home he would be OK. Thank goodness my husband trusted me and we took Bowie home that day.
Each day we saw Bowie’s personality come out, and before we knew it he had become a fun, sweet, 95 pound baby!
One of Bowie’s favorite thing is his toy bin. He loves digging out his toys and playing fetch, chewing them or just throwing them in the air...we think he only played with socks before! He also realized, for the first time, he was a water dog! Bowie now goes down the pool steps as if to say “I’m not sure why but I LOVE TO SWIM,” Its hysterical!! He loves his walks and never meets a stranger, and if he could lick ever face he met he would!
He is the most wonderful, loving, sweet dog and a true blessing in our family. Our other black lab was a puppy when we brought him home from the shelter, this time we knew we wanted an older dog. However, we were worried that we wouldn’t be able to have the love for an older dog like we did for a puppy, or the dog wouldn’t love and trust us because they were left at a shelter and may be traumatized. All our doubts are GONE! Dogs live in the moment, and Bowie only knows he is loved now, especially when he’s snoring on our couch!❤️
