Your Pet's Rescue Story
As a kitten, our beautiful mini panther was dumped with his siblings at a parking lot when he was a baby; we estimate about 2-4 months old. The others ran off, however he was the only one that stayed close to his drop site. He survived by hiding in a building on the parcel of land that housed a used car sales lot and a building being rented out temporarily by my husband and his business partner for their audio/video business. As animal lovers, we looked out for the little guy and my husband made sure he had food and water close by. Eventually, the little black cat made friends with my husband while he was at his shop during the day. It turned into letting the cat roam around outside on the lot during the day and then like clockwork, the cat would return every afternoon at the same time of day Monday-Friday to eat inside the office, get a drink of cool water and use a litter box that my husband provided for him. He would disappear back into the building where all the hardware and gear was stored and sleep throughout the night. We believe this was his safe space!! We began closing him in every night, letting him out every morning - even on weekends. We named him Jet because he was jet black and he had zoomies like a jet engine (plus a little nod to his start at a car lot!). Jet eventually changed his habits by never leaving the perimeter of the building, even when the front door was propped open while the workers loaded equipment for their jobs. He hung out and watched everyone do their thing! When my husband found a new place to locate his business, he talked to the cat to tell him he had to go with him and he couldn’t stay at that lot. As if the cat understood, one day the little guy just jumped inside our truck - he was always very scared to be picked up and never climbed in vehicles - and that’s how we were able to capture and transport him to our vet’s office for a checkup, neutered and current shots.
He was healthy!! The vet suggested he stay quarantined away from our other cat at home until he properly healed. He also had a wound on his face that needed to heal. Jet did so good!! We brought a family member over to visit him to see if she would take the baby, but Jet hid the entire time she was at our house. As soon as she left, he came walking out to us. We knew right then he had finally found his fur-ever home!! Jet just turned 7 on July 1 on his “gotcha” day and he’s been the greatest baby we could ever have rescued. He is definitely living his best life!!
