Your Pet's Rescue StoryIn 2012, my roommate wanted to adopt a cat and asked me if I would go with her to what was at that point called the Central Florida SPCA. She was immediately drawn to a male kitten who was sitting in a cage with two females from the same litter. One of the girls had already been adopted, but the other one (the cuter one) sat staring at me and began meowing nonstop. As soon as the volunteer brought her into the room to meet me, my heart was sold. Hunny Bunnie came home with me the next day and since then has brought so much joy to my life. She is sassy as all get out, loves to seek out comfort (whether that’s on a pillow or with a recently worn shoe), and is more than happy to vocalize her dissatisfaction with service if her meals are even a minute behind schedule. When she’s not on lizard guard duty, you can find Hunny lugging around her cat-sized teddy bear in her mouth, playing fetch with crinkle balls, or sneaking into a sink or shower in the hopes of getting lightly sprayed with water. She hasn’t let her arthritis or - more recently - her diabetes diagnosis slow her down and instead is absolutely thriving with her medications. On her thirteenth birthday in May, we sat down to have a big discussion and luckily we are in agreement that Hunny is going to live forever!
