Your Pet's Rescue Story
This is a story that truly defines the term "meant to be."
I was volunteering at a shelter in New York when my previous dog passed away. My wife and I had plans to be in Florida for the winter so we decided it would be best to wait until the spring to adopt another.
One day in November, I was helping to bring dogs from the kennels to the clinic to be vetted. I was given a list of about 10 dogs. When I approached the first dog, I noticed that he was very scared, was backing away from me, and snarling. I decided to go back to him later, and went to get another dog. This one came right over to me, went on the slip lead and walked to the clinic with tremendous confidence.
When he was done, I brought him to the on-site groomer as this dog was extremely matted. After two and a half hours, I was able to see the eyes of who would become our soul mate.
This dog had been dropped off at the shelter because his previous parent couldn't afford him anymore. He had never been groomed or to a vet. He received all the love she could give him, but fortunately realized she couldn't give him the care he deserved.
After a few days of lots of thoughts, I called my wife from the shelter and told her she had to come see him. Love at first site indeed.
My wife has been a Disney fanatic for over 20 years, so I told her it was time we named a dog Mickey.
A year and a half later we are all living in the Orlando area permanently, and Mickey is having experiences that are truly magical.
He not only rescued us, but every now and then, when he meets a crying child or a stressed out dog, he tosses them a mini life preserver as well.
