Your Pet's Rescue StoryEarly on the morning of November 1, 2014, I left my apartment for a run around Lake Eola. It was freezing that day -- the coldest weather I had seen since living in New York. As I turned the corner of the lake, I saw a rescue organization setting up an adoption event. I tried to look away, but her tiny face stuck out to me and I stopped in my tracks. She was young and shivering in the corner of a metal crate lined with newspaper. Without even thinking about it, I opened the crate, picked her up, and zipped her into my hoodie to keep her warm. When she nuzzled her face into my neck, I knew I was done for -- there would be no plan, no "right time," and no chance of leaving her that day.
Frankie and I have been together now for almost 2 years. She is the sweetest, happiest, and silliest dog I've ever met (thought I may be biased). She never misses an opportunity to chase a lizard, smell a flower, or greet a stranger. She follows me around and looks up at me in a way that only makes me strive to be the person she thinks I am. I can't remember what life was like before she was around to make every day better.
