I adopted my Red Heeler Mix, Sydney, from a local rescue group in 2001 when he was about 6 months old. In April 2002, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Through the next 18 months of surgery and treatment, Sydney was always by my side. When I would lay on the couch, he would sit beside me with his paw in my hand - for hours. Earlier this year we learned that whoever neutered Sydney before we adopted him left a testicle inside. Now Syd is battling testicular cancer, and I am holding his paw. Sydney is my hero.
