Rufus was a great dog. He served for 2 years as a therapy dog at the Maine Veterans Home before he moved to New York. He did love the geese on the river and when they flew, he would run after them. We had a great time and went to every dog event we could find. I remember his first motel stay, in CT. We had gone in February for Mystic Seaports showing of working dogs, hauling coal and wood to the fireplaces in different buildings. It was the coldest day that winter. While I checked us in, the rest of the staff descended on him. They introduced him to everyone in the lobby. And, oh my, my dog who didn't get on beds, jumped up with his snowy, grubby paws, on that white comforter.
