Tell us why your pet is the best ambassador for the North Country Animal League's Rescue Brew Beer (from your pet’s perspective)
Olivia and Oscar are Sister and Brother, rescued in November 2022. They must have had an abusive 3+ years. Just getting them in our cat cages , at the shelter, to take them home was a real challenge! At home, we started with them living in one room, sheltering in the closet together, for a week to get comfortable with seeing us, being feeding, talking to them, and keeping the litter box clean. Next Phase was to giving them access to the second floor for a week and finally access to the whole house. Oscar was the first to come and sit with either one of us and the first to sleep in bed with us.
But, once you stood up, he would freak out and run away. It would take us 2-years before Olivia would sleep with us and a little longer before you could pet her. It's been a long journey but, they are both there for breakfast and dinner without any fear. With treats twice in the morning, twice in the afternoon, and once at bedtime, they will follow us around, feeling safe in their home. Oscar still struggles with either of us standing up but Olivia holds her ground. Oscar must have been kicked a lot in his earlier years. We still can't pick Olivia up but she will sit on the back of my office chair while I'm at the computer while Oscar will sit in my lap. "Life is Good" for this Sister and Brother pair today and we are very happy we picked these 2-cats to help us enjoy each day with them knowing they are in a safe home after 3+ hard early years. Only now, they are slowly coming around when we have company instead of hiding in that 2nd floor closet.
