Tell us why your pet is the best ambassador for the North Country Animal League's Rescue Brew Beer (from your pet’s perspective)Good morning-
I happen to see this ad for NCAL. A wonderful place to adopt pets. I wondered if the wildcard winner could be birds? I had to check CAT for a category. I rescued these three sweet society finches from a pet store in NH a few years ago. I’ve raised many birds throughout the years but this was my first bird rescue. The scenario was heartbreaking. I had only stopped at this pet store to pick up seed for my other birds and saw these three in a dirty cage without water or seed placed high on a shelf. They were missing a lot of feathers, they were not chirping and had no food or water. I called the “manager” over and inquired about them. He had no intention of giving them away. They were sick and not long for this world. I said that I would take them back to Vermont. He wanted to charge me and he made it very clear that the dirty cage wasn’t included. I assured him that I had plenty of cages and I wasn’t paying for them but giving them a chance that they clearly weren’t getting here. He just about tossed them in a box with nothing else. Within 3 hours they were in their new home and with gentle care, food, water and kind words in a gentle environment. They thrived. Their feathers grew back and they started chirping, eating and playing, never too far from each other. Every night they cuddled in their little home awaiting their next day of adventure. They eventually passed away, one by one within several years. Of all the birds that I’ve had, these three lived the popular phrases- small but mighty and against all odds.
