My dog is the coolest because...
“Blaze” (a.k.a. Beezer)

I would like to introduce you to “Blaze, The WonderDog!” Blaze is a pure bred English Springer Spaniel that joined our family seven years ago and made an immediate impact as a family member. Blaze’s name suits him well because he has a quirky habit of chasing sparks from the campfire, which we call the “Spicy Bugs”. He is very alert and tuned in to his surroundings. He is the ultimate watchdog as his ears perk up to the most subtle noises and movements in the yard. Blaze’s reaction to the words “Treat”, “Bird”, “Squirrel”, “Outside”, “Ride”, “Walk” and “Ball” is priceless! A tilt of the head, intense stare and perked up ears!
He is notorious for chasing critters: he once chased a chipmunk up the drain spout, then chewed the end shut to trap the chipmunk. He is a super athlete able to chase down any object thrown across the yard. He is also an avid pier jumper and swimmer, which comes in handy to keep the geese off the lawn. One time he even chased a goose, swimming halfway across the lake! Blaze even goes paddle boarding with his human Dad. Not even a torn ACL and post-surgery therapy can stop him from being active and always wanting to play.
Blaze does tricks. He can roll over, shake, sit pretty, spin, speak, whisper, play dead after being shot with a finger, and can even say “I Love You!” He knows each family member by name, so when you tell him to find one of us, he always finds the right person. If he wants to tell you something, he has a whole vocabulary of his own of “raaars,” roos, yips and barks like he is really having a conversation with us. Each and every morning Blaze climbs in bed and stands on his human Dad’s chest to wake him up and give good morning kisses! He has a nose that never quits and has proven he can open any package, especially when his family has unintentionally left tasty things on the counter. He has stolen cookies and chocolate off the kitchen counter and candy out of the kids’ backpacks and lunch boxes. He has the biggest sweet tooth out of everyone in the family. Once he even ate a whole Valentine’s Day Cake. He has also been known to sneak a drink or two from Dad’s beer.
Blaze’s most recent mission in life is to bring joy to his human Grandpa, as Grandpa battles stage four lung cancer. Grandpa does not have energy to do much of anything anymore, and physically cannot do much anymore because he is constantly hooked up to an oxygen tank. When Blaze runs up to him, his mood and energy levels improve significantly. Blaze is always there for a hug when Grandpa needs it, and even though grandpa claims to not like Blaze, he always has a treat in his pocket anytime Blaze comes to visit. Blaze also can sense emotions really well, and always licks our tears away whenever any family member is feeling sad. Since he is such a good boy to help Grandpa feel better, and since he has had to have physical therapy himself after having knee surgery for a torn ACL. Mom is looking into having him trained as a therapy dog so he can bring smiles to other patients.
Blaze is a dog with a unique and rambunctious personality, which isn’t seen in many types of dogs. He is a huge emotional support source for a lot of our family members, especially Grandpa. Blaze will also be looking after his human mom and dad now, since they have become recent “empty-nesters.” They are REALLY going to need his love! I feel Blaze is up to the task because he is a smart, caring, crazy, energetic, and most of all, a “Good Boy!” This is why Blaze should be the 2021 N. E. W. Top Dog.
