My NICU Graduate's JourneyBorn the day after Christmas in 2016, Avery made his entrance into the world seven weeks early, weighing just 3 pounds 4 ounces. Since Avery was underdeveloped, he spent his first month in the NICU fighting for strength and stability. Every single day, his parents arrived right at the start of visiting hours, and his mom would stay with him throughout the day to pump and comfort him while he rested. Avery gradually learned to self-feed, nourished by both his mother’s milk and a specialized formula from Abbott Labs that helped him grow stronger with each passing day. With incredible resilience and love surrounding him, Avery graduated from the NICU before even reaching his original due date—a tiny miracle with a powerful start!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? There’s so much to be proud of when it comes to Avery. From his quick wit and infectious sense of humor to his big dreams and sharp mind, he lights up every room he’s in. His love for sketching, creating art, and performing shows off his imagination and creativity, while his growing passion for baseball and basketball reflects his determination and drive to try new things and give his best. Avery’s not only a talented and thoughtful young boy—he’s also an incredible big brother, leading with kindness, patience, and love. Watching him grow into the brilliant, funny, and caring person he is today is the joy of a lifetime for his mom and dad!
