NICU Hospital for my journeyUniversity of Michigan MOTTS Children’s Hospital
My NICU Graduate's JourneyAsher was born at 36 weeks with esophageal Atresia type A basically his esophagus was not connected to his stomach, and he had to go through a series of procedures to connect his esophagus to his stomach. His repair was done at three months old. He left the NICU at four months. Asher is still ongoing treatment he just completed his 27th surgery. Asher also has another condition called cyclic vomiting syndrome and he has a very hard time tolerating anesthesia so all procedures are scheduled inpatient and he’s normally in the hospital each time for about a week outside of the hospital Asher is a very busy and happy two-year-old. we know his journey is not over yet, but we know this is all for some reason and we know he’s going to do something extraordinary with his life.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Regardless of all the procedures and testing and hospitalizations Asher is no different than any other toddler. He’s very happy and playful, and he loves people regardless of all the pricks and pokes and tubes and people holding him down. He still wants to be your friend.
