My NICU Graduate's JourneyMama and Adalynn were admitted to labor and delivery at 21 weeks. At 24 weeks Adalynn was born via emergency c-section and immediately brought to the NICU after intubation on evening of her big brother’s 2nd birthday. She was intubated for 49 days, on a noninvasive ventilator til day 89 and at almost 8 months old is thriving on oxygen at home. Her NICU stay consisted of many overwhelming words and conditions including: micro preemie, critical, cautiously optimistic, critically stable, stable, PDAs, FFPs, ultrasounds, X-rays, breathing treatments, NAVA, oscillator, CPAP, VapoTherm, micro flow, OG, NG, unplanned extubations, ROP, then FINALLY after 123 days…. GOING HOME! Readmitted after 5 days home, then readmitted again… until our little girl was finally home with us!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Little Miss Adalynn is the smallest, largest miracle we have ever witnessed. The odds were stacked against her and even though it took time, she beat them all and is now growing and thriving! Our family has a happy ending to our NICU journey that could have easily ended very differently. We are proud and blessed by our little “grand finale” every second of every day.
